Growing up in Kentucky, Sollee was steeped in the state’s musical traditions of bluegrass and old-time music. His musical parents filled the home with classic R&B and folk music. His classical training on the cello grounds his work while his curiosity is always exploring new sounds and ideas.
Kentucky Native
Sollee’s 6th studio album, Kentucky Native breathes new life into the practice of bluegrass music. Recorded in a lakeside cabin in 2017, producer Alex Krispin and Sollee blend together influences from Kentucky’s more recent immigrants.
Slackwater
A songscape created by Ben Sollee and videographer Mallory Cunnigham celebrating the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge produced in collaboration with Sustain Music and Nature.

The Hollow Sessions

Dear Companion
Sollee’s second studio recording produced by Jim James with Daniel Martin. The album celebrates Appalachia while raising awareness about the devastating practice of mountain top removal strip mining. Proceeds from the sales go to support Appalachia Voices.
